Schematizing regional landmarks for route maps

Abstract

Regional landmarks play an important role in facilitating wayfinding and orientation in navigation tasks. Information such as the "route goes around the city center" or "there is a right turn after going along the park" represent spatial relations between polygonal objects and a route. Schematic visualizations are used for the cognitively adequate representation of such spatial relations.
