Research article (journal) | Peer reviewedThe paper starts by briefly discussing ‘crisis’ as a modern phenomenon. Next, I discuss different perspectives on crises from an educational perspective: (1) crises as a motif of educational theory. Here, crises are seen as an occasion for educational processes, (2) crises as a motive for education policy. Crises are to be countered by reforming educational institutions or practices. Interestingly, crises are also often induced or fabricated to build up pressure for reform, and (3) crises as the norm. In this part, I will go into some recent discussions about dealing with crises in the present, which focus on education in the Anthropocene, i.e., the age of humans on earth. The last section deliberates on the role and relevance of International and Comparative Education in this debate.
